Cobalt Cricket slashes Summit record; Wayfarer takes to the stars

The crowdfunding machine behind Summit Comics is very much in full effect. Last week, Summit partner Sebastian Piccione and artist Elias “Gambit” Melendez launched The Cobalt Cricket #1, and quickly became our quickest-funded project yet.

Chirp, chirp. Seriously. The Bronze Age-inspired creepy crawler reached his funding goal in just under four hours, and as of this writing is well over 200% funded! If you haven’t backed yet, check out what the campaign has to offer here.

“I have the advantage, in 2026 versus say 1964, of making the character self aware. He’s in on the joke. He knows he’s a human cricket. He’s not Wolverine or Batman. He’s certainly not Superman,” Piccione said in an exclusive interview with CBR. “He knows dressing like a bug, especially a blue one, is ridiculous. It’s his heart, I think, that makes him a hero. Not his abilities. And I think we can all route for someone like that.”

As CC keeps chugging along, the newest Summit project just launched. That comes in the form of Wayfarer #1 from Nate Schachter and Stan Yak. The story is a space opera of epic proportions and, well…we’ll just let Nate explain it.

“Wayfarer is the exact kind of story I’ve always gravitated towards: an epic love letter to the science fiction genre and its many forms. To get to tell something like that with an artist of Stan’s caliber is just a dream come true, and it is a joy to get to use our bombastic, harrowing journey of an alien trying to get home across the stars to help build out the cosmic corner of Summit Comics,” Schachter said. “I can’t wait for people to see what we have in store at Summit—between the Cordial Community Cobalt Cricket to the Cosmic Wayfarer, there’s an entire universe waiting for folks to pick up.”
